Well listed American and Vermont artist, Montague was born in New Rochelle, New York. He graduated from Dartmouth, studied at the Art Students League with Kimon Nicolaides, and in Paris with Demetrios Galanic, Fernand Leger, and Amedee Ozenfant. He was director of the Sharon Art Center in New Hampshire from 1961 - 1963, then became Executive Director for the Southern Vermont Art Center in Manchester, Vermont from 1964 - 1975.
